The first website I am going to look at is the BBC iPlayer.
BBC iPLayer is a website that allows viewers to catch up on the tv they have missed over the past week.
At first look at the website you can tell it is a profesional looking website that has most likely had multiple people working to make the website as good as possible. Aswell as this the hompage starts the video selection prosess from the start. The colour scheme is very simple and with the colour black and white, with a little bit of pink to make some of the links or page details more clear.
Functionality
On this website there are quite a lot of links to follow aswell as search bars to find the shows you are looking for. To test this I started a search for a show and waited to see how responsive the website is.
The website took under 3 seconds to load all the related videos to the words I searched for.
Once clicking on one of the videos the iPlayer gives you multiple options such as watching the video in either HD or SD, downloading to the iPlayer app, adding to favourites, sharing on social media aswell as looking at the credits or more information about the programme.
Aswell as the options for the video you can also look through a variety of related programmes on the iPlayer. One thing that continues through all the pages at the bottom the same options apply to all of them.
The options that continue the whole way through the website is the option to change your location through the country, the language, parental control, FAQ aswell as the option to navigate to the other BBC websites.
Aesthetics
I will now be looking at the font used and how the website is presented. The font used is very simple and is a basic Sans Serif.
Is it memorable?
In my opinion yes, the website is memorable because pretty much everyone in England knows about this website.
My overall opinion of the website is that it is a good, usefull website that is used by thousands of people daily. The layout and style is simple but affective. If you haven't used the website before it is easy to get the hang of things and navigate you're way through the site.
Learning code.

HTML
HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language and is the standard markup language used in creating web pages. Every webpage is made from a HTML file. HTML tags are hidden keywords within a webpage which decide how the browser displays its content. HTML tags must have an opeening and closing tag. E.g <html> is the opening and </html> is the closing. With out the "/", the tag wont close.
Javascript
Javascript is a dynamic computer programming language and is most commonly used as a part of web browsers. This helps allow the client-side scripts to interact with the user and control the browser. JavaScript is classed as a prototype-based scripting language.
Webpage design
In this unit we have the task of recreating a website for a poetryslam organisation.
Webpage design thumbnails
These are the paper prototypes we made in groups.
These are the thumbnail sketch ideas I have designed to give my self a decent idea on the sort of layout I am looking to create.
I then moved on and created my favorite thmbnail on Illustrator, whilst doing this I used the 960 gridder to check that my design is inline and would translate well on screen.
This is a rough prototype of the webpage.
I presented this to the class and tutor, this was the feedback I recieved:
The boarders may be to bold and there may be to many of them.
The blue theme may work.
I have attempted to change the original layout.
In my opinion, I think it is a good start and looks similar to how my plan design looked. Although the links at the bottom work, the position of them changed and ive struggled to get them back to where they were.
Overall I didn't find the feedback helped me, due to after I am able to move the links back into order I was going to change the amount of boarders. Other than the boarders, I don't really know what other people think I need to improve upon (other than the fact it looks no where near proffesional).
I then made some changes.
Evaluation
Whilst creating this webpage I have learned quite alot about coding and what features will be affective for a webpage. I feel confident enough to be able to easilly edit the type, wheather its the size or what font type it wil be. I also feel comfortable adding colour to words or backgrounds.
Although I dont have all the content I wanted on the homepage so far, I feel im making good progress. At the moment I am still working on changing the logo with a few rough ideas. I am also learning how to put a good slideshow in. At the current stage I am still struggling with the boarders around certain areas with the text. The social media links still also dont have links to the appropriate pages due to me being unaware of what pages are official. Instead they just have links to the homepage of the specific website. Although I havent enjoyed this unit much, I do understand that it will help in future Units that involve coding. I feel over the whole unit I had some good ideas but my execution of these ideas weren't too good. I believe I was affective in adding links to website although I did have some troubles with the image link, I am still able to do so. Although I have a lot I would need to do if I was to ever revisit this webpage, I do believe I would be able to improve as I get more experienced and comfortable with the concept of coding. Wheather it would be improving the layout of the site to get the boarders in the place I was planning on instead of just crammed together in the middle.
When I recieved feedback the main points were the fact that the webpage didn't look finished and that the logo did not look proffesional. I completely agree with all these statements because honestly the webpage is not finished because it does not feature all the aspects I wanted aswell as the scrappy and unproffesional look to the page. I also am aware of the roughness of the logo with the small white circles in around the logo. Whilst doing the work I must of gotten carried away with other aspects of the unit which ultimatley lead to me forgeting to change this aspect of the logo or to finish designing a different and original logo.
