Story telling history

Stories have existed for longer than recorded history. The most early are known as cave paintings and they have gone through the ages to the movies and TV programmes of today.

The earliest dated form of story telling was found by a group of french school children in the Lascaux Caves in the Pyrenees Mountain in southern France. The paining has been dated by historians to of been created between 15000 and 13000 B.C.  The painting vaquely shows a group of animals with a human being chasing them. The style is very simplistic and tells the events of hunting rituals performed by primative human beings.

In the year 700 B.C. the first printed story was created. The epic of Gilgamesh, was originally created in Mesopotamia and eventually spread to Europe and Asia. The story was carved on stone pillars for any one to see, which then spread very quickly.

Some when in the year 200 B.C., Aesop's fables were written down and still today teach lessons to people in many ways in life today. Aesops lived in the 500s B.C., but his stories were then remembered for hundreds of years with out them even being printed or written. Oral story telling has always been powerfull and meningfull. This is proven by the fact that Aesops tales were remembered for so long with out being printed or written.

Story tellers bagan to become influencual and important figures in comunity because the fact that you could remember and tell stories in great detail were considered a brilliant skill.
During the war it was the best way to preserve the valiant deeds won by the soldiers fighting in the war, this was because writing the stories down werent the easiest in the trenches.

Now the most common way of preserving stories are books and videos, whether its film or TV. Films and TV can tell stories whether they have been written in a book before them or if they are invented for the film/TV programme. Film and TV can also re live true stories and past events, giving an insight to the events from the people or experts who were involved.

Game genres

Game genres are used to catogirise video games based on there interactive features and game play.
I'm now going to list the genres:

Platformer: These games ostly consist of a character running, jumping and sometimes flying between platforms to reach the end of the level. Popular games from this genre are; Super Mario, Sonic and Rayman.

Shooters and First Person Shooters: These games consist with you controlling a character who has to shoot his way through the level by killing the enimies. FPS are the same but the camera is set to first person. Popular examples of these are; Halo, Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Emotional Themes

In any story there has to be emotion, other wise the story will be very bland and boring. To make the story more interesting the writer will add emotions. Such as hatred for the villian, or compassion for the main character. If there is emotion in the story the readers can relate more to the characters and this leads to the readers become more engaged with story.

Interactive storytelling

Interative storytelling is a from of digital entertinment, a key feature of interactive stroytelling is the story will always be affected in real time by the user.

The Unexplored lands

For the past 149 years a corrupt government have had control over an entire kingdom deep inside the mountain of Valgor. The Palimentis family were one of the first known familys to start living in the mountain kingdom and they saw that as a reason to take control and make all the unpowerfull familys bow before them. Some families rebelled which lead to their family names being wiped out or to become slave workers. The first elected leader was Jallo Palimentis, the strongest and the cruelest of his family. Jallo only managed to have one child due to his wife Willow dieing whilst giving birth to Vegard, who would then become Supreme Chancelor of the kingdom when his father died. The council have few beliefs, but beleive that they are the master race of dwarves and anyone born outside the Palimentis blood line, with a few acceptions was deemed a false dwarf. This lead to them all being forced to mine deeper into the mountain, hunt for food on the mountain paths, or become a slave to the council. But this year the council have made plans for a group of dwarves to explore deep into the mountains, so deep that no one has ventured that far into the darkness of the the great mountain.

It was a cold, dark night in the slums of Valgor and some where in the darkness a flame started to glow, this flame was held by a poor low born dwarf named Balvo Tarrinhorn. Balvo has worked as a miner ever since he was old enough to use a pickaxe. Balvo was fairly small even for dwarves and was very large around his belly. He wore a dark blue hooded cloak over his small round body, with a jet black dirty beard hanging over the cloak. Balvo was taking a small road which lead to the centre of the kingdom. He was heading for the counil tower. Some say that the council tower is as tall as the mountain its self, but no low born dwarf knows for sure. As Balvo got closer to the tower he noticed there are two different paths, one going left and the other right. The left path leads to the main entrance of the tower but it is guarded by a few royal guards, where as the right path leads to the one unguarded area of the tower. Balvo's father who used to work as a royal slave to Jallo before working in the mines informed Balvo about this area of the tower and with that valuable piece of evidence Balvo took the right path making sure he was not seen. Balvo approached the end of the tower and noticed holes in the the walls and ledges under neath the windows and with out a second though he began to climb. All his years working inside the mines, climbing from rock to rock gave Balvo a great talent in climbing. As Balvo managed to find him self at the window of the kitchen next to the Supreme Chancelors royal chamber and climbed in. Luckily none of the catering staff working for the Chancelor could be seen. Balvo managed to sneak his way into the chamber room. It was filled with book shelves, portraits and jewels all over the table tops with a cabonate placed in the far corner of the room. Balvo slowly approached the cabonate remembering his task of gathering a rare medecine that could help save his parents from their death beds. As Balvo reahced out for a glass flask with a light green liquid inside of it a sword was placed across his throat. "Stop right there thief!" shreaked a royal guard stood infront of the Supreme Chancelor.

The supreme chancelor was one of the tallest dwarves in the kingdom aswell as the one of the skinnyest. His head was almost fully bold with a well groomed short red beard hung from his chin and it lied under neath his long pointy nose. He was wearing a long red and yellow dress robe with matching robes. [This is where the conversation between the Chancelor and Balvo takes place]

Balvo awoke from being knocked out in a crampt mine cart with four over dwarves. The cart was aproaching the end of the rail in a very dark cavern. "Where are we?" aksed Balvo in a dazed and confused state. "Were heading to the unexplorred parts of our kingdom, oh im Matri by the way and theres no use trying to speak to the other two, they wont answer" replied Matri.
"They expect four people to mine into the never ending darkness? And i thought this government couldnt any worse!" Balvo muttered under his breathe as the group got out the mine cart and approached the end of the wall and began to to mine into it.

After a few hours of hacking into the wall Matri came across a whole which looked to lead into an open space. "Hey look, i think ive found a different cavern, a real big cavern" shouted Matri as he peared through the hole. As Belvo started to look through the hole he could see a glow low down. It looked like it may have been a lava pool. With that in mind the dwarves started to franticly hack at the hole to get a closer look. As they got through the gap in the wall they noticed that this area has been inhabited before. This was because they were stood on and around built structure above a lava pool with a very poorly built cart track leading from the middle into the darkness. "Have you ever heard about this place?" asked Matri, hoping that Belvo would answer yes.
"I was hoping you would know" replied Belvo in a regretfull way. Before they could move one more step an arrow flew out of the darkness into one of the silent dwarves heart, knocking him of the ledge in to the lava. "Take cover now!" screamed Belvo as he charged towards a boulder for cover. As the dwarves did this, hooded figures dropped down form the levels above them and disarmed the dwarves easily enough and binded them in rope.

Interactive story feedback

It is a good start, but it could have had a bit more interaction. I like the setting of the story, sounds like it is set in the Medieval times with the guards. Like Luke said himself, there is not a lot there, but I think it has potential to be a good game.

Story narative

My story isn't very believable because there is no proof that fire breathing flying dragons and wizards, and there is no proof that even if they do exist cant battle eachother in space.
I dont really think my story is very rythmic.
My partner said he enjoyed my short story describing it as short and creative.
My partner would like to find out why the dragon and space wizard were enemys and why the dragon went searching for him to fight.

something that happened to me

It was a few days after my 7th birthday and my whole family were having a BBQ at my Aunties house. I had just finished my food and was playing a game similar to tag with my older brother and two of my cousins. My brother was it and was after me when my cousin grabbed me and put me his shoulder as we begun to get away from my brother. That was when my cousin triped on a pit of a hose pipe sticking out on the concrete slabed path, as this happens i fell of his shoulders head first down to the ground.
The next thing i remember was waking up all confused with blood dripping down my face and my dad rushing over to me to pick me up. We get in the car and drive to the closest hospital, rushing into the main reception. Luckily a doctor was in the room at the time and takes a look at the slit in the back of my head. The doctor then took us into a room and gets some medical glue...
