These are some paintings and drawings i have been inspired by or looked to for ideas in creating a level design.
Ken Adams
These pieces of art are very sketchy but detailed, they look like they are concept art but improved alot from just thumbnail sketches. I also like how Ken has got all the structures the right sort of hight.
Chris Foss
H R Giger
Giger's art style is very surreal and sci fi which doesnt have much to do with what I am hoping to create. I like the use of shading and the colours used to create a very dark mysterious atmosphere.
Alan Lee and John Howe
I have taken most inspiration from these artists because of the art style of fantasy and mistical landscapes. top one is my favorite and links the closest to the work i am hoping to produce, this is because of the giant mountain scape in the background. The drawings/paintings are very clear in what they are even if they are not the most normal of places or structures. All the colours used work well and compliment each other and they are also very natural, because all the scenery is outside on a mountain range or in a forest. The use of lighting and shading adds a reallistic touch to the art work. In my work I hope to achieve some of these affects.
This is a stetch of one of my final designs for a game environment.
